Electrocardiogram on a laptop, just what we always wanted

Look, this whole electrocardio business is all well and good, but we must confess our initial disappointment when we realized that the little display on the left palm rest of this laptop was no SideShow apparatus -- though we suppose you already knew how we feel about that little bit of Vista goodness that is SideShow. All the same, there ain't much wrong with this HATO NB electrocardiogram doohicky that MSI slapped onto its latest laptop. The included electrodes can be hooked up to your aesthetically pleasing lady friend, allowing the laptop to record her vitals or even allowing a doctor to remotely examine the patient. You can also print out information the gadget gathers, or place the data on an SD card for doctor perusal. The rest of the details on this thing are sadly lost in machine translation, but it looks like MSI will be showing it off at CES next week, so we'll keep an eye out.

MSI manufactures its on laptop you noob. They have a factory which is shared with LG and MSI. MSI makes some of IBM's laptop , LG laptops and their own Laptops.

A serious (?) comment from a physician -- This is actually good idea but I question the validity of this picture, indeed, the device.

The ECG electrodes are not in the right place (seriously) and there aren't enough of them to make this a real ECG machine.

Definitely please keep an eye out for this comp. We have a ton of rural areas to serve as EMT's and our Paramedics will need them too. I'd like to know and how much......

Ask any sleep technitian that has to do field studies and they'll tell you that these already exist. However, from the looks of this, this is an incredibly simplified version of the current devices they use (granted, there are no EEG leads, breathing, abdo/thor, pulse ox, etc.). If they're even remotely as accurate as the more "professional" devices, I'm sure it would be a welcome development.

there are loads of systems that do this. Marquette, Philips, Schiller - all make PC-based ECG capture. I used to support a load of these. Quite what MSI think they're doing if they're manufacturing these rather than using a bought-in ECG capture card, I don't know - the hardware's useless without fully validated and tested software, and I doubt MSI can afford to do everything that they need for full FDA-compliance just to make their laptops look hawt at a trade show.
