T-Mobile Wing takes flight
Well, it's finally done: T-Mobile Wing née HTC's Atlas / Herald has lifted off. Obviously there are absolutely no surprises here for anyone who's been following this launch, but the thinner- hotter successor to the MDA comes out swinging with Windows Mobile 6 (Professional), quad-band EDGE data, Bluetooth, a 2 megapixel camera, WiFi, myFaves, a 2.8-inch QVGA display, microSD slot, soft-touch finish, and new and improved QWERTY keyboard. It'll be available tomorrow for $300 (with service agreement); stick around for some high res photography sure to tide you over until then. Early review roundup posted after the break.
Well, it looks like more than a couple had some units, dinnit?

I've used the unlocked HTC version of this device - it feels very nice in the hands, went on a serious size diet from the MDA, and Windows Mobile 6 finally makes making phone calls easy from a Pocket PC. Obviously, a slide-out keyboard means that doing some things requires the extra step of sliding out a keyboard, but when you have two hands available the big keyboards on the HTC phones are the way to go.
Add 3G and this thing would be one of 'my favs.'

T-Mo won't get 3G till ~January. They were hoping for a Q3 07 launch but that isn't gonna work out. The preliminary network will be done by that time (in a handful of cities), then allot about 4 months for testing. I suspect data cards will come before handsets.

as far as the phone goes: man this platform REALLY needed the 400 mhz processor. anyone who has used that 200 mhz TI processor knows its crap, esp. for windows mobile professional. when i tried out the tytn i was REALLY impressed with what a huge difference CPU speed makes.

Im just wondering why the 2mp camera, they
should at least make it 3.2 mp on a new mobile.
And yes, 200 to 400 mhz makes a lot of difference.

I am completed disappointed with this offering. T-Mobile dropped the ball big time on a WM6 Pro device. This should have been the HTC TyTN that they decided to go with. The MDA is slow as it is with WM5, this processor isn't anything to brag about. At best, this device is mediocre and for novice Smartphone users...
T-Mobile pretty much made my decision, I will be upgrading my MDA to WM6, not buying an new device from them...

Just a warning, WM6 is nightmarsih on the MDA.

It's better when overclocked to 299mhz but the battery doesn't follow....

So does anyone know what the differences between this T-Mobile model and the Verizon ppc6700 are? (Just looking for the Cliff's Notes version...)

mwahahaha. just ordered mine! 3 days to ship, booo.
Chris @ May 22nd 2007 1:31PM
The sales Rep I spoke with and ordered mine through at T-Mobile said I was ~ her 50th order today (12:00pm EST) for this device...
She seemed a bit shocked that so many people were calling in for these but assured me "They are in stock and ready to ship".

After reading some more online and getting over my initial frustration with the choice of device from HTC that T-Mobile went with, I just finished placing my order for one. I’m going to give it a chance.
I've got 14 days once I receive it to try it out and decide to keep it. I was thinking more and more about the upgrade of WM5 on my MDA and decided I didn't want to go that direction...
Thanks for the suggestion info carlo...
T-Mobile offered the device to me for $300.00 + shipping.
